Soos Mannetjies Roux … moontlik die beste / Like Mannetjies Roux … possibly the best

As mentioned in the May edition of GAME & HUNT, the third of the three opportunities that a crisis such as COVID-19 presents is a
revived appreciation of the outdoors and life’s other simple pleasures. The first opportunity is the use and flexibility of technology. In this regard we are proud to report that we had more than 490 000 digital and social click, read, watch, like, comment and share actions on our social media platforms GAME & HUNT DigiMag, GAME & HUNT Daily newsletter, WILD & JAG / GAME & HUNT Facebook page and www.wildenjag.tv website during level 5 of lockdown.

The second opportunity is polarisation, and within the wildlife and hunting industry, the member organisations of HAWASA (Hunting and Wildlife Associations of South Africa) and other organisations reacted in a unified approach to the request for comments on the wording and directives of the COVID-19 level 4 regulations for publication in the Government Gazette.

Dr Flippie Cloete reports on p 70 on the impact of COVID-19 on the live game-trade market, and the interdependence of the various wildlife industry segments on the value chain. As a result, the demand for male animals destined for the hunting market has slowed down. Because of the international travel ban, it is highly unlikely that any international hunters will visit South Africa until September, and perhaps not until the 2021 hunting season. High-quality animals destined for breeding achieved good prices in April, as breeders bought animals from other breeders within an auction group and/or geographical area.

Lekker lees!

Wildbedryfgroete
Game industry greetings
