Talent thrills me. I am always in awe of how easy a talented person can make it look: letting a cricket ball fly for a six; turning paint into a recognisable image; a voice so sweet it gives you goose flesh or leaves you in tears.
But there is more to talent than the gift. The extraordinary are those who don’t just cruise on what they have received, but build on it. As much as we sometimes want to believe others have an unfair advantage, the truly great spend hours at it.
And then there are factors such as strength of mind, willingness to take risks and an inherent belief that dreams can come true.
In this edition, the truth of talent shines through. From business acumen and organisational skills to art, music and orthotics, the people of the Southern Cape show how it is done.
May you be encouraged to pursue your talent. It is possible to be excellent.
