BLASER NOW FORMALLY REPRESENTED IN SOUTH AFRICA
It was with great excitement that we learned from Marc Hillermann, new CEO of Blaser South Africa, that Blaser will have formal representation in South Africa, offering a much more effective service to their dealers. This will result in a far better service to us, the hunters and end-consumers of Blaser products. Blaser decided to support African Outfitter as one of their media partners as it is the only magazine from Africa offering advertisers an extended footprint in Africa as well as internationally, and reaching readers in more than 30 countries worldwide on a subscription basis. African Outfitter also has a distribution point at OR Tambo International Airport, reaching hunters from every corner of the world.
It is encouraging to notice a drastic change in the attitude and direction of these major global players, such as Blaser, in the firearms industry. Following the devastating effect of the new Firearms Control Act on the local firearms industry in South Africa, it is heart-warming to see Blaser with their Blaser, Rigby, Mauser and Sauer brands as well as Verney-Carron, Heym, Perugini & Visini, Beretta, Zoli, Pietta, etc investing in the African market. Hopefully the likes of companies such as Holland & Holland will be following suit.
In this issue Johan van Wyk, our co-editor: Classic & Modern Firearms, tests one of the preproduction varieties of the Rigby Big Game and is pleasantly surprised. He explores the history of the renowned British gunmakers John Rigby & Co, from the time that they first opened up for business in 1775 until today. Our cover also features a .470 Nitro Express best-quality risingbite sidelock ejector rifle by J Rigby from the private collection of Andrew Tonkin.
Speaking of Andrew Tonkin – I wish to welcome him as co-editor: Loading and Shooting Vintage Guns. We are fortunate indeed to have him on our outstanding team of co-editors as his valuable contribution will add to the quality and integrity of our articles.
Finally, African Outfitter had a very successful HuntEx 2014. A big thank you goes to all our new subscribers and we also wish to congratulate the daily winners. Thanks also to all who visited our “booth in the bush”. Adriaan Woudstra of HuntEx can be rightly proud for hosting a world-class expo!
